The number one ranked Indiana Hoosiers went into Minneapolis on Tuesday night, looking to add another win on the road to a Big Ten Title, but left after being beaten by the unranked Minnesota Golden Gophers 77-73. This upset now gives three other teams a realistic shot at the regular season title. The Michigan State Spartans, even after losing their last two games, now sit only one game behind Indiana in the conference standings, with three games left in the schedule. Not far behind are the Michigan Wolverines and the Wisconsin Badgers each with four games left to play in the season.
In what has come to be an extremely exciting college basketball season, especially for the Big Ten, we again see a number one ranked upset for the seventh time this season. The Spartans next two games are against the two teams that are at their heels in the rankings; Michigan and Wisconsin. The hardest of these games will be in Ann Arbor against the Wolverines in the Crisler Center next Sunday. The Wolverines will be hungry for revenge after the shutout loss to Michigan State at the Breslin Center earlier this month. On March seventh the Spartans will host Wisconsin and then the Northwestern Wildcats on the 10th. If the Spartans can win out the rest of the season they have a great chance of at least a share of the regular season Big Ten Title, or possibly a sole lead if the Hoosiers lose again.
