This Saturday at 12 pm Eastern Time, the Michigan State Spartan football team will host the University of South Florida Bulls in their first ever match-up. The game will commence at Spartan Stadium. The Spartans are fresh off their successful home opener last week Friday against Western Michigan where they won 26-13.

This week the Spartans are looking to their offense to make some serious improvements. While the two quarterbacks that placed, Andrew Maxwell and Connor Cook, seemed shaky, it was not their entire fault for lack of offensive production. Dropped passes by the receivers and some instances of poor run blocking contributed to the limited offensive output by the Spartans. Michigan State is likely to keep Jeremy Langford as the starting tailback. He posted his career high game numbers last week against the Broncos, producing 94 yards on 20 attempts.

The Spartan defense on the other hand, performed almost on point last week. The MSU secondary is looking to have another dominant game. Jarius Jones currently has posted two of the three team interceptions, one of which he lateraled back to a teammate who ran in for a touchdown. Team captain and linebacker Max Bullough leads the team in tackles with nine, three solo, six assists, and 2.5 for a loss.

South Florida is currently 0-1 this season. This is head coach Willie Taggart’s first season with the Bulls. He spent the last three years coaching Western Kentucky. With a football program that started in 1997, South Florida has seen some success since joining the FBS in 2000. They’ve appeared in six bowl games, compiling a 4-2 bowl record. This year the Bulls bring back 13 starters to their squad, including seven on defense.

In their home opener last week against McNeese State, the Bulls fell 53-21. They allowed over 400 total yards on defense while their offense committed three turnovers. The player that the Spartans need to watch out for is their senior class running back Marcus Shaw. He exploded last week with a total of 145 rushing yards on 12 attempts including the first play from scrimmage where he surprised many with an explosive 80 yard touchdown run.

The game will broadcast live on ESPNU.
